How to Find All the Hidden Wi-Fi Passwords on Your Mac and Windows PC
Have you ever been in the situation where you need to find the Wi-Fi password of a network that you have previously connected to? Whether it’s due to a forgotten password, a new device trying to connect to the network, or a new user joining your home, it’s not always easy to find the hidden Wi-Fi passwords. Fortunately, we have a guide to help you out!
If you have a Mac or Windows PC, it is possible to find all of your saved Wi-Fi passwords.
For MacOS
All of the passwords you have used and stored on your Mac are held in Keychain Access, the secure password storage system for MacOS. This encompasses all of the Wi-Fi network passwords as well.
1. Select System from the list of System Keychains in the sidebar.
2. Go to the top of the window and click on Passwords.
3. Locate the Wi-Fi network for which you want the password and double-click on it.
4. Tick the box labelled Show password and enter your password when prompted.
For Windows
To discover the password of the network you are currently connected to:
1. Go to the Start button and then open Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center (Windows 11) or Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network and Sharing Center (Windows 10).
2. Click the name of the Wi-Fi network highlighted in blue next to Connections.
3. Open the Wi-Fi Status page, click Wireless Properties, and then select the Security tab.
4. Check the box next to Show characters to show the Wi-Fi network password above it.
To get the passwords of all your WI-Fi networks:
1. Right-click the Windows icon in the taskbar on your desktop.
2. Open Windows Terminal (Admin).
3. Enter netsh wlan show profile and hit Enter on your keyboard to view all the Wi-Fi networks you have connected to.
4. When you find the Wi-Fi network for which you need the password, type netsh wlan show profile “(Wi-Fi network name)” key=clear (for example, netsh wlan show profile “Netgear667” key=clear) and hit Enter.
Settings for profile, connectivity, security, and cost will appear. The Wi-Fi network password will be displayed under Security settings, next to Key Content. You can use the Windows Terminal or the Command Prompt application to type the commands listed above to find your Wi-Fi passwords.
