We live in an age where the internet has become an integral part of our daily lives. We use it to communicate with each other, access information, and even make purchases. It’s also a place where many governments around the world are trying to impose their own control. Internet censorship is an ongoing battle for freedom of expression, and we have seen this play out in countries such as China, Russia, and Iran. In recent years, we have seen a collective effort from tech companies, civil society organizations, and individuals to fight against online censorship. In this blog post, we will look at how we supported the fight for online freedom and what impact that had on the global community.

Looking back at 2021

2021 was a big year for the fight against online censorship. We saw major protests against social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, and we also saw new efforts to create alternatives to these platforms.

We were proud to support this fight for online freedom, and we hope that 2021 will be remembered as a turning point in the battle against censorship.

We would like to thank all of our supporters for their help in making this possible.

How did NordVPN contribute?

NordVPN contributed to the fight for online freedom by providing a secure and private VPN service. NordVPN allowed people to access the internet without being tracked or monitored by their ISP or government. NordVPN also helped to protect people's data and privacy from hackers and other online threats.

Our key partners

For years now, we've been proud to work with some of the leading organizations fighting for online freedom. Together, we've helped advance digital rights around the world and defend the open internet.

Here are just a few of our key partners:

* The Electronic Frontier Foundation is one of the foremost non-profit organizations fighting for digital civil liberties. We've supported their work in court, provided financial assistance, and helped them expand their reach internationally.

* The Tor Project develops free software that allows people to improve their privacy and security online. We've supported their work with financial contributions and by helping to spread awareness of their tools.

* Access Now is a leading digital rights organization that works to protect and advance the rights of all people online. We've partnered with them on a variety of campaigns and initiatives, including supporting their #KeepItOn coalition which fights internet shutdowns around the globe.

The World Wide Web Foundation

The World Wide Web Foundation is an important player in the fight for online freedom. We have supported their work in a number of ways, including providing financial support and publicizing their efforts.

The World Wide Web Foundation was founded by Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web. The foundation's mission is to "advance the open web as a platform for innovation, opportunity, and social change". To further this mission, the foundation works on three main fronts: ensuring that the web is accessible to everyone, promoting web literacy, and advocating for policies that protect and advance the open web.

We have been proud to support the World Wide Web Foundation's work in a number of ways. Most recently, we provided a $50,000 grant to support their efforts to ensure that the web remains accessible to all. We have also publicized their work through our blog and social media channels.

As the fight for online freedom continues, we will continue to support the World Wide Web Foundation's efforts to keep the web open and accessible to all.

The Human Rights Foundation

The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) is a nonprofit organization that promotes and protects human rights globally, with a focus on closed societies.

Since our founding in 2005, we have worked to support dissidents and activists in countries like Iran, Russia, China, North Korea, and Cuba through a combination of direct assistance, training, and grants. We also work to shine a spotlight on human rights abuses through our research and advocacy.

In recent years, we have increasingly focused on the fight for online freedom as an essential part of the broader struggle for human rights. The internet has created new opportunities for dissidents and activists to connect and organize, but authoritarian regimes are fighting back with increasingly sophisticated tools of censorship and surveillance.

That’s why we launched our Internet Freedom Program in 2014. The program supports individuals and organizations working on the frontlines of the fight for internet freedom around the world. To date, we have awarded over $2 million in grants to more than 180 projects in 50 countries.

We are also working to raise awareness about the importance of online freedom through our #KeepItOn campaign. The campaign mobilizes people around the world to stand up for an open and free internet by speaking out against internet shutdowns and other attacks on online freedoms.
